JayCon Story

Well, why not be ahead of schedule rather than behind?  This year, for JayCon, I'm throwing wide the doors of imagination and inviting you all to help.  As some of you may remember, two years ago I started a new thing -- each year for JayCon I write a Jay Lake story that is delivered to the Birthday Boy His Own Self vocally at the party.  The first year was "Jay Lake and the Inscrutable Alien Story Device," which explained our hero's mysterious origins in Northern Canada, where the extraterrestrial visitors gave him the device that allows him to write freakishly well and freakishly fast.  Last year, I wrote "Jay Lake and the Mole Men of Mars," in which our hero travelled to an obscure village in Mexico to deal with a subterranean threat at the request of the President of the United States.

So that brings us to THIS year.  For the next few days, feel free to post the "Jay Lake and the...." titles that you'd like to see stories for.  I'll narrow it down to the five or so that I like the best (or feel the most confident writing towards) and then Trailer Boy will see if he can figure out the LJ polling system so we can vote on the one I'll eventually twist into a tale.  As an added bonus, I will build the winner into the story as a minor character whose fate will lie in the hands of my nifty protagonist.

And if I were really clever, I'd go back to last June's LJ entries, find the story I posted then, and show you all what I'm talking about.  Maybe I'll figure that out and post it later this morning.

(Or just post it here....http://kenscholes.livejournal.com/2006/06/03/)
